Dodge, an iconic brand in the muscle car community, has announced that the current form of the Dodge Challenger is leaving the production line after the 2023 model year. It's legacy, however, will live on for generations to come. To make the final model year of the iconic Dodge Challenger memorable, Dodge created four 'Last Call' special editions. The final one Dodge released is the SRT Demon 170. The first Dodge Challenger Demon was introduced in 2018 and provided an exciting 808 horsepower. In 2023, Dodge pushes the limits with a 1,000-plus horsepower supercharged V8 engine! Upon its release, the 2023 Challenger SRT Demon 170 shattered numerous National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) records and was quickly crowned the world's fastest, most powerful muscle car. Upgraded Engine for the 2023 Dodge Challenger Demon 170

The 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 uses the high-output supercharged 6.2L HEMI V8 engine found in the Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye. However, the Demon 170's supercharger shares much of its DNA with the C170 Hellephant supercharger from Direct Connection, which is why '170' was added to the name. While the Hellcat Redeye's supercharger provides 15.3 PSI of boost, the Demon's provides 21.3 PSI, giving it a 40% increase. The Demon 170's increased boost pressure gives it a 30% increase in airflow, providing more air to the engine's cylinders to be mixed with fuel, providing added power. The fuel injectors were also swapped out to provide up to 164 gallons of fuel to the cylinders per hour, which is even more fluid than the average American showerhead can provide! The internals of the new Demon is upgraded to run on either premium 10% Ethanol (E10) fuel or 85% Ethanol (E85) fuel. E85 fuel gives the Demon 170 its maximum power output of 1,025 horsepower and 945 lb-ft of torque. This power gives the Demon an NHRA-certified 1.66-second 0-60 time, an 8.91-second quarter-mile time at 151 MPH, and a G-force reading of 2.004 Gs at launch. With E10 fuel, the Demon 170 offers 900 horsepower and 810 lb-ft of torque. The Demon 170's frightening power is delivered to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission that can be controlled by steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

High-Performance Equipment for the Demon 170

When creating the 2023 Demon 170, Dodge didn't set out to create another muscle car, they set out to create a muscle car that is unlike anything the world has ever seen. Of course, to do this, it needed more than just a powerful engine. That's why the creators took the Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye back to the drawing board and gave it a wide range of performance-enhancing features. It is the only production car to come from the factory with a staggered wheel fitment. Instead of having front and rear fender flares like the Hellcat Redeye, the front ones were removed for the Demon 170, reducing the total weight by 16 pounds. Opting for the Demon 170's available lightweight carbon fiber wheels from Lacks Enterprises, the weight drops by an impressive 157 pounds. The staggered wheel flares match the staggered tire sizes. In the front, the Demon is equipped with 245-millimeter wide tires on 18-by-8-inch wheels. Meanwhile, the rear wheels are 17-by-11 inches and wear tires with a width of 315mm. The Demon 170 comes standard with Micky Thomson ET Street drag radials for optimal track performance. Additionally, the Demon 170 features adaptive damping suspension with Bilstein shock absorbers. The Drag mode button can be used to provide custom settings for the ride stiffness and maximum weight transfer. Customers can order the 2023 Demon 170 with a factory-installed parachute and roll cage to make it legal for NHRA drag racing events. Without it, the Demon is banned from these events because of its quarter-mile time of under nine seconds.

Performance-Enhancing Technologies

Dodge also packed the all-new Demon 170 full of advanced technologies to enhance its performance and give it its mind-boggling power. Dodge gave the Demon everything it needs to help racers achieve the fastest possible launch, quarter-mile, and 0-60 times. The Launch Control feature allows drivers to achieve maximum vehicle acceleration while staying in a straight line by managing tire slip when launching the vehicle. To warm the tires before a track run, drivers can easily perform stationary or rolling burnouts with the Line Lock feature. At the push of a button, Line Lock will lock the front brakes while the rear wheels are allowed to spin freely. While Launch Control keeps the wheels heading in the right direction, Launch Assist helps prevent wheel hop at launch by maintaining traction and keeping all four wheels in connection with the pavement at launch. The SRT Drive Modes, including Drag mode, put drivers in command of the Demon 170's transmission shift points, paddle shifters, handling, and suspension systems to enhance its performance even further. To give drivers real-time performance data, the 8.4-inch touchscreen on the center stack uses SRT Performance Pages to show drivers G-force readings, gauges, reaction times, engine output readings, engine performance, 0-60 times, and more.
