When it comes to keeping your Jeep vehicle well-maintained, an oil change is at the heart of it all. While many people oftentimes put off getting an oil change, this is a real part of your Jeep’s health and longevity. In order to show off while oil changes are so important, we’re going to go over what a regular oil change offers your vehicle, and why it especially matters with a vehicle in the Jeep lineup. Nothing is more important than keeping your vehicle running for a long time, and we here at Fullerton CDJR want to be a pivotal reason why your vehicle lasts. Keep reading down below as we give you the latest information on oil changes for your Jeep!

Why are oil changes so important?

There are many reasons why oil changes are such an important figure in car health.  The very first thing to understand is why oil is used within the engine. Oil maintains engine lubrication. All of the moving parts in the engine create heat, due to friction, and without a proper lubricant, those different parts will start to wear down and reduce the efficiency of the engine, not to mention its overall life span. Beyond that, oil helps to reduce heat, cooling the system. When you change the oil in your Jeep, you are also clearing out all of the particles and sludge that build up over time. These particles corrode parts in the engine, and can even ruin the system for good. It’s also worth noting that an engine that gets regular oil changes lasts longer, and has an improved gas mileage than it would otherwise.

How often does my Jeep need an oil change?

The first thing to know when trying to figure out the ideal intervals between oil changes is the age of your Jeep, the driving conditions, and the type of oil that you are using. For a long time, it was most common to get an oil change every 3,000 miles. More modern engines today now recommend an oil change every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. If your engine needs full-synthetic motor oil, then you can go as far as 15,000 miles between oil changes. Most modern Jeeps now have a system that will tell you when an oil change is necessary. Older vehicles, especially ones that tow, sustain constant stop-and-go driving, and deal with hot, cold, or dusty climates, may need oil changes more often.
