Servicing your vehicle regularly is necessary to keep it running in top shape whether it’s brand new or an older car. One of the most important things to do is get your oil changed. The type of car you have and its age do affect how often you’ll need to do it. We have a quick run-down of what type of oil to use and how often to change it for you!

Oil Change at Fullerton

More modern vehicles require a newer type of oil than previous cars. It is composed of a thinner molecular structure than conventional oil. Cars from the last ten years are now made to run on a synthetic oil that was created to last longer and work more efficiently. Rather than having to change your oil every 6 months or 3,000 miles like with conventional oil, you’ll only need to change synthetic oil between 5,000 and 7,000 miles on average but sometimes you can drive as many as 15,000 miles. Though synthetic oil is cheaper, it is not suggested to use it in an older vehicle, as it will likely cause issues down the line. If you’re not sure what type of oil your vehicle needs, always consult with a trained mechanic and don’t take on changing it on your own!
